Bus Ride Magazine--November --DATTCO named IMG Operator of the Year

Diversity and innovation make the 80-year old company an industry leader

International Motorcoach Group (IMG) honored DATTCO, the diversified bus and motorcoach company based in New Britain, CT, as its 2005 Operator of the Year.

John Croswell, chairman of IMG, presented the annual award to Donald DeVivo, senior vice president of DATTCO, this past summer at the Strategic Alliance Meeting, held at Lake Geneva, WI.

The award recognizes the member company that "participates in industry leadership roles, promotes IMG standards regarding safety, customer service, driving training and practices sound business techniques."

"We are very proud to be selected for this award from our IMG peers," says Don DeVivo. "This is an honor that we feel reflects directly on our tremendously capable and dedicated employees in every area of the operation who make DATTCO who we are. They deserve all the recognition."

The original company was established in 1924 in a merger between a local bus company and a local school transportation operation. Today, as DATTCO, under the ownership of Louis DeVivo and his son Don, the heavily diversified company operates from 19 facilities throughout the northeastern United States with the help of 1,200 employees.

The entire DATTCO fleet incorporates 62 Van Hool and MCI motorcoaches, 50 paratransit and shuttle vehicles, and approximately 725 school buses, plus 32 student activity buses of the company's own design.

The divisions that make up DATTCO are commercial sales, vehicle service and body shop, school bus transportation, motorcoach charter and tour, and full-service travel.

The DATTCO service department employs over 120 mechanics at 12 service facilities located throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

As a full-service travel agency, the DATTCO Tour and Travel Group creates retail and custom tours and individual vacations.

In addition to its size and level of diversity, DATTCO also demonstrated its leadership role as the founding member company of the group's captive liability insurance program.

"This program shares risks with other light carriers of high quality and exceptional safety records, and are not necessarily IMG members," says Dennis Lyons, vice president, DATTCO Charter and Tour. "DATTCO is also one of three companies in the group that has a shared health insurance program for our employees."

DATTCO participates in its respective communities by donating coaches for charity auctions and producing an annual expo for travel related companies to come together to promote their products and services.
