DATTCO to Students' Rescue!
Dear Editor:
I am writing today to share a wonderful act of kindness that recently took place in the parking lot of New Britain Stadium. I was so impressed by the display of instinctive human decency; I wanted to convey this affirming story to your readers.
While enjoying a company outing at a Rock Cats game last Monday night (5/23), DATTCO Motor Coach executive Don DeVivo, accompanied by a number of his front office colleagues, learned that a privately-owned bus transporting other Rock Cats patrons- some 30 students from the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford- was disabled in the parking lot. Upon hearing of this in his skybox, Mr. DeVivo and friends interrupted their evening of fun and made their way to the scene, as they wanted to offer their collective expertise to the driver- and reassurance to the students. Mr. DeVivo soon climbed behind the wheel of the bus while other DATTCO executives got under the hood.
When it became clear that the mechanical difficulties were beyond a quick fix, Mr. DeVivo called headquarters and summoned a DATTCO motor coach the safely transport the ASD students back to West Hartford. With the young people comfortably aboard a replacement coach, the DATTCO folks next retrieved the necessary engine part and repaired the bus in the rain! I witnessed much of this and simply could not allow such a thoughtful act to pass without formally expressing my deep admiration for the good people of DATTCO.
In the interest of full disclosure, I must advise you that DATTCO is a longtime and valued sponsor of Rock Cats baseball so these folks are not strangers to us. But after viewing their actions on Monday night, I have never been prouder of our association.
