Current Position: Vice President, Sales and Service

Other Positions Held at DATTCO:
Fleet Manager
General Manager, Sales & Service division

What is the biggest highlight (proudest moment) of your career here?
I have had many career highlights over three decades, including designing and implementing a PM program for DATTCO’s fleet that is still in operation today, overseeing the growth and expansion of DATTCO’s fleet, and assisting in the establishment of DATTCO’s ThermoKing division. But, my proudest achievement has been putting together, and continuing to find, the best team of people in the bus, truck & transport refrigeration industries.

What is your favorite part of working for DATTCO?
DATTCO and Thermo King Northeast are some of the most respected companies within their industries and this is achieved by the people that work for DATTCO. Working with the people within DATTCO is what’s kept me here for 30 years. I had the privilege of working for Louis and Edward DeVivo, the founders of DATTCO, for a good many years. They both respected and appreciated their employees for the work they did.

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
The employees at DATTCO treat each other with respect and work as a strong team to service both the company and its customers. Even though DATTCO has grown considerably over the past 30 years it still gives you a feeling of working within a true family operation. Within DATTCO’s vast operation there are many opportunities for those that are dedicated and work hard at achieving their personal goals.

That every day is different.

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
This job is what you make of it. There is always room to excel in many different areas/locations if you apply yourself, keep an open mind and have a positive attitude.

Starting position: School bus driver

Current position: District Safety Manager

Other positions held at DATTCO:
State Approved Driver Instructor
School Bus Safety Coordinator

What is the biggest highlight (proudest moment) of your career here?
My proudest moment had to be when I learned that the Trumbull location received an award for the Most Improved Safety Record for the 2014/2015 School Year.

What is your favorite part of working for DATTCO?
My favorite part of working at DATTCO is that I get to be a part of helping to mold our present (and future) school bus drivers into the safest drivers on the road! After all, they are responsible for the safe transport of tomorrow’s leaders!

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
I tell potential employees that DATTCO is more than the name of the company. DATTCO is a not only a family run business but it’s a family that treats each employee like a family member and listens to each family member.

And my advice to new drivers is to drive each passenger just like you drove your new born baby home from the hospital; or the way you drove your niece, nephew, or other young relative, for the first time.

Years worked at DATTCO: 10

Starting Position: I started as an intern from the CCSU tourism program working for the tour and charter departments.

Current Position: Director of Charter Sales

Other positions held at DATTCO:
Charter Sales Representative
Charter Manager
Director of Charter Sales

What is the biggest highlight (proudest moment) of your career here?
There have been a lot, but some of the most memorable is the traveling I’ve done on behalf of the company. I’ve been to Baltimore, Utah, Minnesota, Florida, Missouri, and Washington DC. I’ve also helped plan transportation for presidential inaugurations, super bowls, NCAA tournaments, and several other big events. I also enjoy the day to day transporting of kids on their field trips, shuttles for weddings, etc. For the people on our buses these events are memories that will last forever and I like being a part of that.

What is your favorite part of working for DATTCO?
Definitely the family atmosphere. From the day I started here I was working with multiple people who had been with the company 30 or 40 years. There is a reason people stick around that long- It’s a great company to work for. I even recommended my brother for a job here in the Sales and Service division; he has been with DATTCO for 8 years now and was recently promoted.

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell them the bus business is never dull! It’s not easy, but it’s very rewarding, and I think that’s true of all our divisions.

What is the biggest highlight (proudest moment) of your career here?
There have been many highlights of my career, but the one I’m most proud of is guaranteeing that our buses are properly prepared – on time – for the start of each school year.

What is your favorite part of working for DATTCO?
My favorite part is…just when you think you have seen or done everything, something new comes along!

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
My advice to new hires is to listen, watch, learn, and take advantage of all that DATTCO has to offer (through training and teaching). Anyone can get a “job,” but DATTCO can give you a career if you are willing to do the work!

I am proud of everything I have learned here at DATTCO, but I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to go back to school to complete a bookkeeping course that has allowed me to be able to do the best job I can do as Payroll Assistant, ensuring that payroll is processed each week with minimal errors. This education has allowed me to easily be able to assist my supervisor with any issues that may arise.

What is your favorite part of working for DATTCO?
My favorite part of working for DATTCO is the diversity of the company – there’s always room to grow, and each experience has pushed me to better educate myself for whatever position I am able to hold. Everyone treats you like family!

What would you tell a potential new employee about DATTCO – if you could tell them only one thing about working here, or could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
My advice for new employees is never doubt yourself – if an opportunity arises go for it! If it works in your favor it was destined to be, if not you can at least say you tried, and maybe next round you will move forward. There’s always opportunity to grow at DATTCO!
